Safety & Health Awareness

AED (Automated External Defibrillator)                                 4 Hours

The AED is a machine that analyzes an individual’s heart rhythm and, if necessary, tells him/her to deliver a shock to a victim of cardiac arrest.  The shock may help the heart re-establish an effective rhythm possibly saving one’s life.  Students will learn to use the machine properly.  This valuable course is also available to members’ spouses.

BACK INJURY PREVENTION                                               4 Hours

The instructor explains the benefit of good health and maintaining a healthy back.  Students learn the anatomy of the back.  Instructor displays warm-up and stretching exercises that should be done before the beginning of work. Student learns proper lifting techniques and back injury management and self-care.

CPR (CARDIO-PULMONARY RESCUSITATION)                       4 Hours

Course teaches individuals how to correctly identify situations in which CPR is necessary and lists cautions associated with administering CPR to a victim.  This class is given as the first part of the eight (8) hour CPR/First Aid Course.  Certification is authorized by the American Red Cross.

CPR RENEWAL                                                                                 4 Hours

The CPR Renewal is offered for those who require refreshing their CPR certifications.  The same topics are covered as in the initial CPR course, including hands-on.

FIRST AID                                                                                          4 Hours

Individuals learn to correctly identify situations where First Aid is required, and to learn where to turn for help when on a jobsite.  Course is given as the second part of an eight (8) hour CPR/First Aid course.  Certification is authorized by the American Red Cross.

FIRST AID RENEWAL                                                            4 Hours

The First Aid Renewal is offered for those who require refreshing their First Aid skills and certifications.  The same topics are covered as in the initial CPR course, including hands-on.

INFECTION CONTROL RISK ASSESSMENT             4 and 24 Hours     

Application of the practices and principles of containing potentially hazardous materials disturbed or created by construction operations and maintaining a healthy environment outside a workzone, particularly in hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

RESPIRATORY PROTECTION AWARENESS                    4 Hours

The course instructs the student in the correct use of respirators when there may be hazardous substances present.  The topics covered are; explaining respiratory types, worker exposure assessment, maintenance, inspection, selection and use.  Course also covers the limitations of different respirators. Students will learn exposure guidelines, different kinds of respirators and their proper use.

SILICA AWARENESS                                                                       8 Hours

This awareness course covers what Silica is and its uses, health effects, Medical Surveillance, OSHA Construction standards associated with Silica and Control methods.
